This is a classic. I think everyone has made or eaten these treats at one time or another. I remember making these as a kid. My son loves treats as he calls them. He usually eats the store bought version. We have made them together once before but I decided to make it extra fun this time by letting him use cookie cutter to cut them into fun shapes.
Recipe from box of Rice Krispies
3 tbs. margarine or butter
1 pkg regular marshmallows or 4 c. mini marshmallows
6 c. Rice Krispies Cereal
1. Melt margarine or butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
2. Mix in Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until well coated.
3. Spread the mixture using a buttered spatula evenly into a 13x9x2 inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cut into 2 inch squares when cool.
**If using cookie cutters to make shapes the Rice Krispies Website says to let them cool slightly and then spray cooking spray on the cookie cutters and cut out shapes.
For lack of Thanksgiving themed cookie cutters we used a large pumpkin, small pumpkin, and half moon. Afterward I pieced the remains back together and cut traditional squares. I doubled the recipe and after using cookie cutters and cutting squares ended up with about 30 treats.
