Aldi 1/18/12

Has anyone else noticed an increase in shoppers at Aldi lately?  It has been so much more crowded the past few times I have gone.  I've also noticed a huge increase in couponers when I participate in Super Doubles of Triples.

Here is this weeks shopping trip.

Sugar Frosted Flakes $1.79
Wild Caught Salmon $4.49
Bite Size Shredded Wheat $1.99
Cinnamon Crunch Cereal $1.99
Spring Mix Salad $1.99
5 lbs Red Potatoes $1.29
2 packages Chocolate Chips $1.79 each = $3.58
2.5 lbs Bananas $1.11
Carrots $.59 (yep $.59 for a bag of carrots)
Gallon Milk $3.39
Crackers $1.19
Crackers $1.19 (I just noticed this and wonder if I was charged twice for the same thing)
Sred Mozarella $3.49
Frozen Mozarella sticks $2.49
2 Dannon Danimals Smoothie Drinks 6 pk. $1.99 each = $3.98
Plain Bagels $1.49
American Cheese Singles $1.99
Butter $2.29
Homestyle Beef Soup $1.39
Chili $1.09
Eggs $1.39

Total  $45.25

By adjusting our budget to $50 per week I was able to stay within budget and get a few treats without blowing the budget.  I'm still trying to decide what to do with the extra.  I have been considering saving it and seeing what we have at the end of the year, saving it and seeing where we are at the end of 3 months and then deciding......Still unsure but that's for another post.

Menu 1/16-1/22/12

Since we are finally getting back into a rhythm here I wanted to make sure that I am menu planning.  Not only to help us eat more well balanced diets but to also use up the foods we already have.  I was really disappointed in myself when I cleaned out the fridge a few days ago.  It was terrible.  I threw so much unused and forgotten about food away.  We have also been on a smoothie kick.  Little man loves them and I can even toss spinach in there and he still gobbles it up.  We have been having them as snacks most days of the week.  This has at least allowed me to use up some of the spinach that is on it's way out that is too wilted for my taste but blended into a smoothie you don't even notice.

Playing a Little Catch Up

I've been gone for a while. It was not intentional but the more pregnant I got the more uncomfortable and painful things got for me. The hubby and I joked on many occasions about how this little guy must be bigger than his brother based on how I was feeling. Boy were we right. When little man was born four years ago he came in at 6 lbs 11 oz and was 20.5 inches long. His little brother, well he can definitely not be called peanut anymore and we lovingly call him chunky monkey.

Chunky monkey was born December 12, 2011 weighing in at 8 lbs 14 oz and 21.5 inches long. Not a tiny baby.

The past month has been spent adjusting to being a mom of two and adjusting to taking care of two when the hubby is at work. Little man has been an amazing big brother and loves chunky monkey and always wants to love on him. It's so weird how much chunky monkey looks like little man. If we put some pictures side by side it's hard to tell who we are looking at.

I have been working on getting back into the swing of things and finally feel like things are settling down. We have still been watching our grocery budget but after several weeks of deliberation have decided to up our weekly amount to $50. It kind of defeats the purpose of the blog name but oh well, the goal is still the same. I am hoping to get back to posting menus and shopping trips. Speaking of menus, I have become slightly addicted to Pinterest and searching recipes, crafts and homeschooling ideas. It's a great way to pass the time during middle of the night nursing sessions!

And to leave you with our favorite picture of the boys thus far.
